Appearance & Grooming
The Saint Bernard is an extra large dog with wide shoulders. The breed can be either short haired or long haired with various colors in brown, red, white, and brindle. The Saint Bernard sheds seasonally and requires weekly brushing when shedding.
Behavior & Disposition
The Saint Bernard has a relaxed personality. They tend to play well with younger children. However, adult supervision is recommended when playing with puppies and other dogs.
Activity Level
The Saint Bernard has a moderate activity level and it is easy for the breed to become overweight. For optimal health, the Saint Bernard should be carefully monitored for calorie consumption and should have daily walks.
Training
The Saint Bernard is a very smart dog and can learn quickly. Leaving this breed alone for a long time is not recommended due to their tendency to have a strong bond with their dog parent. Early socialization and obedience training are also recommended.
