The Havanese is a small toy dog characterized by slightly longer front legs that produce a “wiggle-like” walk. The breed has a long, smooth, double coat in white, black, reddish-brown, fawn, Havana Brown, and tobacco. The Havanese sheds moderately and requires brushing two to three times per week.

Behavior & Disposition

The Havanese is known for its intelligent, lively, playful, and sociable personality. However, these companion dogs may require adult supervision when playing with children and other dogs.

Activity Level

The Havanese has a moderate activity level and it is easy for the breed to become overweight. For optimal health, the Havanese should be carefully monitored for calorie consumption. They should also avoid foods containing cooked bones and high fat contents.

Training

The Havanese can be easily trained with positive reinforcement. Early socialization and training during puppyhood are recommended.
