Overview
The Borzoi is a sight hound that originated in Russia. They were originally used to hunt wild game.
Appearance & Grooming
The Borzoi grows rapidly in its first year of life, quickly becoming an extra-large dog. The breed has a soft, wavy coat in white, red, brindle, sable, black, and tan. The Borzoi sheds seasonally and requires weekly brushing when shedding.
Behavior & Disposition
The Borzoi has a quiet personality. They fare better in adult-only environments or homes with older children. Adult supervision is recommended when Borzois interact with other dogs.
Activity Level
The Borzoi has a high activity level. Due to their slim frame, it can be easy for the breed to become overweight. However, with daily exercise and careful calorie consumption, this is less of a concern.
Training
The Borzoi is an independent dog, and therefore, it can be difficult to train. Early socialization and obedience training during puppyhood are recommended.
